After another fantastic lesson from sensei tonight im realising what hip action is to aikido and how important its role is...as a beginner and the fact that im a bit.of a chubster i do struggle with flexibility and relaxing my muscles and just letting everything flow smoothly.I have seen on one of the many shopping channels that my wife watchs a weighted hula hoop.I was wondering if this would aid me in my attempt to loosen my hips up and get them flexible or would it hinder me.Also if any of you guys could recommend a good way for a big guy to become more flexible, i do stretch everyday but its not enough
Regards Jay

Patience. Patience. Patience. Your body is very new to this so naturally it may feel stiff and awkward in some instances. I'm certain Sensei must have told you that Aikido is not an art for the hurried man, it's a long, slow and often rocky road. So be kind to yourself, allow your body to develop in unison with your training and yes by all means continue to stretch and exercise as a part of every day living but don't waste money on fads that will more than likely have very little impact on your Aikido training.
